"My job in the medical field requires me to travel in all kinds of weather throughout much of SW Virginia. MyCMI+™ provides a real level of security. If I had an accident or required medical attention away from home, essential medical information is immediately available. My family is reassured knowing my medical information is available and it will be easy for emergency personnel to contact them should that be necessary."

My consulting job involves extensive travel within the United States as well as some assignments in foreign countries. MyCMI+™ gives me and my family the comfort of knowing I have my essential medical information with me and it will be readily available should I need it. And having advance directives immediately available to assure my wishes regarding my treatment are known and honored is a real important component of this product. I am also an avid bicyclist and the Emergency Capsule has become an essential piece of my equipment any time I ride. MyCMI+™ is a real world example of technology significantly improving my peace of mind.

"Before I got MyCMI+™ I was involved in an automobile accident that totaled my car. Luckily my seat belt and air bags prevented life threatening injuries. However, I was dazed and unable to communicate clearly. The MyCMI+™ flash drive and Emergency Capsule would have been invaluable to emergency responders to assess my medical history and contact my loved ones. I plan to always have MyCMI+™ with me in the future."

"Having survived a recent motorcycle accident, I wish I had had all my medical information on my person when it was needed most. Vital contact information and medical records instantly available to emergency and other medical personnel would have helped in my treatment and in getting in contact with my two daughters and relations. MyCMI+™ offers me that type of assurance going forward."

"I am responsible for my parents, both of whom have health problems. MyCMI+™ allows me to keep track of my own medical records and assures my parent's medical information is immediately available whenever it might be needed. My mother suffers with Alzheimer's and it is reassuring to know I can quickly generate a Missing Person report to share with security or police if we are ever separated. It is also comforting to know my child's medical information is available to his infirmary or medical personnel when he is away at college."

"Recently I was diagnosed with potentially lethal blood clots in my leg. I was placed on heavy doses of anticoagulants in an effort to break up the clots. A side effect of the treatment is a significantly increased risk of uncontrolled bleeding. Within ten minutes of returning from the doctor's office I had my medical records and medications updated on the web, on my flash drive and on the Emergency Medical Capsule insert. In addition to having MyCMI+™ flash drive on my key ring, I am wearing my Emergency Capsule around my neck to insure emergency personnel are alerted to my condition."

"The United States is probably 10 years behind other industrialized countries in sharing electronic health information," said Barry Nangle, director of Utah's Center for Health Data.
The situation has had a dire effect on health care quality. The number of Americans who die from preventable medical errors - an estimated 200,000 deaths annually - is larger than the yearly death toll from breast cancer, AIDS or accidents involving motor vehicles combined.
Some 80 percent of those mistakes derive from paperwork or manual errors, including inadequate communications between physicians, inaccurate medical records, mishandled patient requests, inaccessible records, mislabeled specimens, misfiled or missing charts, and poor reminder systems, said Jodi Daniel, director of policy and research for the federal Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONCHIT)."

Untying the Privacy Knot

"The commission (Commonwealth Fund's Commission on a High Performance Health System) grouped its ratings into four major categories: quality, access, efficiency and equity. Of these, efficiency, the category that included health IT, got the lowest score, 51.
Besides the lack of e-medical records, the low score also reflects high administrative costs and lapses in care in the U.S. system. The lapses included test results and other medical records that were missing or unavailable."
